We don't label specific breaks in Truckee as beginner spots. Whether a spot suits a first lesson depends on the day's waves, tide and wind, and what's under the water varies from spot to spot. Let your school choose, and ask them what the bottom is like before you paddle out.
July through September brings the warmest conditions and most reliable afternoon winds for wave generation. Water temperatures range from 65-75°F. Full wetsuits recommended (4/3mm). Morning sessions are typically flat, so plan lessons for afternoon wind swell.
Lake surfing differs from ocean surfing - waves are smaller and more predictable, typically 1-2 feet.
