Privacy Policy
What we collect, which outside services see your visit, and how to opt out. Last updated 18 October 2026.
Who we are
SurfSpotGuide (“we”, “us”) runs surfspotguide.com, a directory of surf schools and surf shops plus guides on surf gear, travel and learning to surf. Questions about this policy go to contact@surfspotguide.com.
What we collect
- What you send us. Your email address when you sign up for a guide, quiz result or checklist; your name, email, phone, group size, dates and message when you send an enquiry to a surf school; anything you write in our contact or feedback forms.
- Business accounts. If you claim or list a business, your name, email, login details and the business information you add.
- Purchases. If you buy a digital product, Stripe processes the payment. We receive your email and order details, never your full card number.
- Usage data. Pages viewed, links clicked, approximate location (city or country), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the site.
How we use it
- To send you what you asked for, such as a guide, your quiz result or a reply to your message.
- To pass your enquiry to the surf school you contacted. That school then handles your details under its own policy.
- To send occasional surf emails if you opted in. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
- To understand which pages help people, and to fix what doesn't.
We don't sell your personal information.
Cookies and similar technologies
We and the services below use cookies, pixels and browser storage to run the site, measure traffic and credit us for referrals. The site also keeps a few small items in your browser's local storage, such as your progress on our checklists. These stay on your device.

These outside services may receive data about your visit or set their own cookies:
- Google Analytics: traffic measurement.
- Vercel: hosting, plus privacy-friendly page analytics.
- Railway: our database hosting.
- Resend: sends our emails.
- Stripe: payments.
- CARTO: map tiles on pages that show a map.
- Instagram: embedded posts on some travel pages.
Affiliate links and advertising partners
Some links on SurfSpotGuide are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. When you click, the retailer or network may set cookies on your browser to record that the visit came from us. Our partners include:
- Amazon (Amazon Associates Program)
- AvantLink, used for retailers such as evo and Backcountry
- GetYourGuide
- Travelpayouts, used for travel bookings
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Third parties, including Amazon and other advertisers, may serve content and advertisements, collect information directly from visitors, and place or recognise cookies on your browser.
Your choices
- Cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, but affiliate referrals and analytics won't be recorded.
- Google Analytics: opt out with Google's browser add-on.
- Interest-based ads: manage them through the Digital Advertising Alliance or Your Online Choices (EU and UK).
- Emails: use the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
- Access or deletion: email contact@surfspotguide.com and we'll send you what we hold or delete it.
How long we keep it
We keep email signups until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, enquiry records for as long as they help us run the directory, and business accounts while they're active. Analytics data is kept under each provider's own retention settings.
Children
SurfSpotGuide is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has sent us their details, contact us and we'll delete them.
