Unlike more intense surf destinations, Folly's relaxed vibe removes the intimidation factor that often keeps people from trying surfing. Here, your instructors are locals who grew up riding these waves and genuinely want to share their passion for the ocean with newcomers.

When to Visit
Late spring through early fall (May-September) brings warm 75-80°F water temperatures—no wetsuit needed. Avoid winter months unless you're comfortable in a full wetsuit, as water temperatures drop to the 50s.
What to Expect
You'll find a refreshingly unpretentious atmosphere where nobody judges your skill level. Morning sessions (before 10am) offer the cleanest conditions and smallest crowds. The beach has plenty of free parking, and local surf schools provide all necessary equipment. The National Weather Service's advice applies here: only swim at a beach with lifeguards, check the local beach forecast and talk to the lifeguard before going in, and remember that rip currents often form on calm, sunny days. If one catches you, don't fight it: relax and float, wave and yell for help, or swim parallel to the beach until you're out of the pull.
