Uluwatu Coworking and Cafés to Actually Work From

If you surf here and work here, your day has a fixed shape, and it isn't the one the café photos suggest. In the dry season the wind is offshore at dawn, so you surf at six and you're back on the clifftop by nine. Your calls then land in the afternoon or late at night, because your clients are in Europe or America. Early water and late meetings should decide where you work, not the view.

What you need is narrow: aircon, a reachable socket, somewhere to take a call without a scooter going past the microphone, and access when your calls land. Uluwatu has five places selling desks and eight cafés in our dataset, and the gap between the groups is wider than in Canggu. The desks cluster on the Labuan Sait and Bingin surf strip and in inland Ungasan, about twenty minutes away. The cafés are mostly open-sided rooms built for breakfast.

Nobody on this team has worked from any of these places. Everything below is what each venue publishes, plus coordinates and opening data from our places file, with the gaps left visible. Where a venue says nothing about power, wifi or laptops, so do we.

On the surf strip, built for people who get wet before they open a laptop: showers, lockers, a pool, an in-house café, meeting rooms and 24/7 member access. The catch is that the public site publishes no rates and pushes a tour booking. Ask what a day pass costs before you commit to a month.

Meeting room IDR 500,000 an hour, phone booth IDR 150,000 an hour, hot desk "on request". Spacious indoor-outdoor seating near Padang Padang and Bingin, opening at 06:30 for a dependable breakfast either side of a dawn session. Inland in Ungasan, about 5 km from the Labuan Sait strip, with no published website, so there's nothing verifiable about its wifi, sockets or laptop policy. It's here because it's the only café in this dataset near the Ungasan coworking cluster, where you'll want lunch if you take a desk at BukitHub or Hedonist.

What a desk actually costs here

Only two of the four coworking spaces publish rates. BukitHub in Ungasan lists IDR 150,000 a day, IDR 600,000 a week and IDR 2,000,000 a month, a meeting room at IDR 100,000 an hour and a virtual office at IDR 5,500,000 a year. The Space, on Jl. Pantai Bingin, lists IDR 275,000 a day, IDR 138,000 after 4pm and IDR 195,000 for a weekend day. It also has bundles of three to ten days, hour bundles from 15 hours at IDR 452,000 up to 100 hours at IDR 2,486,000, and unlimited months at IDR 2,800,000 for one and IDR 7,590,000 for three.

Hedonist prices by the item: IDR 500,000 an hour for the sixteen-seat meeting room, IDR 150,000 an hour for a phone booth, hot desk on request. BWork publishes nothing. So a day is somewhere between IDR 150,000 and IDR 275,000, and an unlimited month between IDR 2,000,000 and IDR 2,800,000. That range comes from two spaces, not a market average, so use it as a sanity check before you negotiate.

Do the arithmetic on the bundles; almost nobody does. If your working day is four hours squeezed between two sessions, The Space's 15-hour block at IDR 452,000 or its after-4pm drop-in at IDR 138,000 costs less than a month you'll use at half capacity. Buying a monthly pass out of habit is the standard way to overpay for coworking in a surf town.

Cafés versus a desk: sockets, heat, and whether the laptop is welcome

What catches people out on the Bukit isn't bandwidth. It's the room. Most cafés are open-sided by design: heat by eleven, glare on the screen, scooters and wind in your microphone, and sockets (where they exist) behind the counter. Aircon is the exception. A clifftop table with two sockets and no walls is a lovely place to read email and a bad place to run a meeting.

Laptop policies are real and enforced here. Honeycombers' Bali nomad-café guide notes that some cafés state "no laptops allowed", and describes Bukit venues that accept laptops upstairs but not downstairs, only in the daytime, before the table is reserved for dinner guests. Ask at the counter before you unpack, and expect to give the table back around six.

The workable day is boring, and it works. Use a café for the first hours after a dawn session, when you're eating anyway and the work is asynchronous. Use a desk for anything at a fixed time. Of the cafés in this dataset, only BGS publishes an amenity list: free wifi, free water refill, outdoor seating, restroom. Even that says nothing about power at the table. Everywhere else, we don't know whether it has sockets, and neither does the internet.

Power cuts, and what your backup should be

On 2 May 2025 Bali lost power across the island from around 16:00 local time, after a fault on the subsea cables linking its grid to Java. The state utility PLN restored critical infrastructure first: government offices, hospitals, the airport and hotels. The airport ran on backup generators while flights were delayed. That was exceptional, but it caps how much faith any single location deserves.

The routine version matters more. As the area guide sets out, fibre coverage on the Bukit is thinner than in Canggu or Seminyak, which is why Starlink dishes are common on villa roofs. Mobile 4G is strong along the clifftop roads and drops away in the gullies and on the paths to the beaches. The "villa wifi is unreliable, so use a coworking space" framing comes largely from coworking businesses, who sell the solution. The thin fibre isn't in dispute. The conclusion you draw is yours.

Sort three things before the call, not during it: a local data plan with hotspot, tested in advance; a laptop that isn't already at eight per cent; and one venue you know is open when your calls land. BukitHub and BWork both advertise 24/7 member access, and Hedonist advertises twenty-four-hour workstations. If your meetings are on European or American time, start there.

Common questions

How much does coworking cost in Uluwatu?

The two spaces that publish rates put a day between IDR 150,000 (BukitHub, Ungasan) and IDR 275,000 (The Space, Bingin), and an unlimited month between IDR 2,000,000 and IDR 2,800,000. BWork publishes no rates, and Hedonist lists its hot desk "on request". That's a range from two data points, not a market average. If you only work part of the day, check the bundles first: The Space lists 15 hours at IDR 452,000 and an after-4pm drop-in at IDR 138,000.BukitHubThe Space BaliBWork BaliHedonist Space

Which coworking space is closest to the surf?

The Space, on Jl. Pantai Bingin, roughly 500 m in a straight line from the Labuan Sait café strip and about 3.5 km from Uluwatu itself. BWork's Uluwatu site is also on the strip. BukitHub and Hedonist are inland in Ungasan, roughly 5 to 6 km away. These are straight-line distances from our places data, so road and scooter time is longer. The Space BaliBWork BaliBukitHubHedonist Space

Can you work from cafés in Uluwatu?

For part of the day, and not for calls. Some Bali cafés ban laptops outright, and Bukit venues are described as restricting them to an upstairs area and daytime hours. The bigger constraint is physical: most rooms are open-sided, so heat, glare, scooter noise and a lack of reachable power beat you before the wifi does. Ask at the counter before you unpack, and plan on giving up the table before dinner service.Honeycombers Bali

Is anywhere in Uluwatu open 24 hours?

BukitHub advertises 24/7 keycard access, though you sign up during its admin hours (Mon to Sat 10:00 to 21:00, Sun 11:00 to 15:00) to get the card. BWork lists 24/7 member access at both its sites. Hedonist advertises twenty-four-hour workstations inside a venue that otherwise runs 08:00 to 02:00. Among cafés, the earliest openings are BGS and Milk & Madu at 06:30, and the latest desk-friendly closing is The Space at 23:00.BukitHubBWork BaliHedonist SpaceBGS BaliMilk & MaduThe Space Bali

What internet speed should I expect on the Bukit?

One measured figure exists: the listing directory Nomadwise records 214.1 Mbps for BukitHub, which itself advertises fibre without a number. Hedonist says its fibre runs on three independent backbones but quotes no speed. Nobody else publishes one, and we haven't tested any. The planning assumption that holds is area-level: fibre is patchier than in Canggu, Starlink is common on villa roofs, and mobile 4G is solid on the clifftop roads and weak in the gullies. Keep a mobile-data fallback for anything time-critical.NomadwiseBukitHubHedonist Space

Been there

Laurence surfed on the Bukit in October 2025, at one of the smaller breaks rather than the main Uluwatu peak. That's first-hand for the water and for getting around the peninsula. It isn't first-hand for the restaurants, cafés and villas in these guides, which are researched and sourced, and say so on the page.
